Science Assessment Professional Development Opportunities

Science educators throughout Washington are encouraged to sign up for science assessment updates as well as apply to participate in events such as Leadership Institutes, Scenario Writing Workshops, Content Reviews, Range Findings, and Data Review.

The adoption of the Next Generation Science Standards (2013 Washington State K-12 Science Learning Standards) in October 2013 began a transition process that will take several years for awareness, professional development, and implementation in the classroom. The first state-wide assessments of the new standards are expected to be administered in spring 2017 or spring 2018.

State-wide assessments aligned to the 2009 Washington State K-12 Learning Standards will continue until the new assessments are implemented.

As dates for development events for assessments aligned to the 2009 Washington State K-12 Learning Standards or the 2013 Washington State K-12 Science Learning Standards become available, information will be posted below. Invitations to apply for these events will be emailed to those signed up for science assessment updates.
