  Response to Intervention (RTI)

Response to Intervention (RTI) is a multi-level prevention system to maximize student achievement and to reduce behavior problems. RTI is supported in part by the State Personnel Development Grant from the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP).

With RTI, schools identify students at risk for poor learning outcomes, monitor student progress, provide evidence-based interventions and adjust the intensity and nature of those interventions depending on a student’s responsiveness. RTI may also be used to identify students with specific learning disabilities (in accordance with state law WAC 392-172A-03060).

Washington State receives intensive technical assistance from the National Center on Response to Intervention (NCRTI). Although there are multiple approaches to RTI, OSPI attempts to align guidance and resources with recommendations from NCRTI.  The Essential Components information listed below connects you to information from the NCRTI site.
