The purpose of this page is to provide school district employees and the general public with a central location to find information relating to Special Education funding.
Special Education funding in Washington State is provided through state and federal funding sources.
Safety net funding is available to school districts with a demonstrated capacity for Special Education funding in excess of state and federal funding otherwise provided.
In the determination of capacity for safety net funding, the safety net committee shall require that districts demonstrate that they are maximizing their eligibility for all revenues related to services for special education-eligible students including Medicaid. Safety net awards shall be adjusted based on the percent of potential Medicaid eligible students billed as calculated by the superintendent of public instruction.
