Science Assessment Professional Development Opportunities

Science educators throughout Washington are encouraged to sign up for science assessment updates as well as apply to participate in events such as Cluster Development Workshops, Content Review Meetings, Range Finding Meetings, and Content Review with Data Meetings.

The adoption of the Washington State 2013 K-12 Science Learning Standards (Next Generation Science Standards) in October 2013 began a transition process that will take several years for awareness, professional development, and implementation in the classroom. The first state-wide assessments of the new standards are expected to be administered in no earlier than spring 2018.

The Grade 5 and Grade 8 Measurements of Student Progress (MSP) and the Biology End-of-Course (EOC) exam aligned to the Washington State 2009 K-12 Learning Standards will continue until the new assessments are implemented.

As dates for development events for assessments aligned to the Washington State 2013 K-12 Science Learning Standards become available, information will be posted below. Invitations to apply for these events will be emailed to those signed up for science assessment updates through the GovDelivery listserv.
