The Apple Award Construction Achievement Grants
are made possible through funding provided by the Legislature. The award
began in 2004 and has been funded every year except 2007-08. The
Legislature created the Apple Award to honor and reward students in
Washington’s elementary schools who have shown significant improvement
in their school’s results on the Washington state assessment. Schools
are identified by OSPI based on a number of criteria, including academic
improvement on state assessments, school size and geographic location.
The identified schools are given a $25,000 grant to be used for capital
construction purposes that have been selected by students in the school
and approved by the district’s school directors.
