Reading Assessment involves two tests: the Measurements of Student Progress for grades 3-8, and the High School Proficiency Exam. These tests replace the WASL, which was the state's assessment until 2009,
and are given every spring. The state assessment is designed to help schools and districts determine whether students have met the K-10 Reading Learning Standards.
Due to transitioning the assessments to the Smarter Balanced Assessment system, there will be no released items from the 2013 MSP or HSPE. Please continue using the released materials that still appear on this Webpage to help prepare your students for the 2014 MSP and HSPE.
Each year we provide an Updates document so educators in the field can reflect on how students respond to stimulus on the assessment. Feedback from the spring 2013 MSP/HSPE did not return any additional information. We encourage you to continue using the Updates document Grades 3-5, Grades 6-8, and High School to help prepare students for the spring 2014 MSP/HSPE. In 2014/2015, all schools will shift to the Smarter Balanced Assessment. We encourage you to check out the practice and sample items.
