is a multi-level prevention system to maximize student achievement and to reduce behavior problems. RTI is
supported in part by the State Personnel Development Grant
from the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP).
With RTI, schools identify students at risk for poor learning outcomes, monitor student progress, provide evidence-based interventions and adjust the intensity and nature of those interventions depending on a student’s responsiveness.
RTI may also be used to identify students with
specific learning disabilities
(in accordance with state law
WAC
392-172A-03060).
Washington State receives intensive technical assistance from the
National Center on Response to
Intervention (NCRTI). Although there are multiple approaches to RTI, OSPI
attempts to align guidance and resources with recommendations from
NCRTI. The Essential Components information listed below connects you to
information from the NCRTI site.
Tool charts listed below are resources from NCRTI's Web site.
Effective RTI implementation requires use of effective instructional and assessment strategies. The resources listed below are intended to connect you with additional evaluation resources, guidance on effective implementation, and resources for working with families.
