In accordance HB 1521 and E2SHB 1546, the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction has established selection criteria and outlined a process for school districts and educational service districts to recognize existing innovative schools and create new innovative schools and programs. In order to encourage innovation by recognizing and publicizing existing Innovative Schools, OSPI was directed by the Legislature to invite schools to apply for formal recognition as Innovative Schools.
New Innovative Schools & Zones
The Legislature created the Innovation Schools & Zones program to encourage the creation of new Innovative Schools or Zones focusing on A-STEM in partnership with business, industry and higher education. An Innovation Zone can be designated if a group of schools share a geographical location or sequentially serve students through progressive grades.
