The English Language Arts (ELA) offices at OSPI provide technical assistance for the learning standards and oversees the testing of the standards required by Washington's legislature.

Washington State K-12 ELA Learning Standards
The Common Core State Standards are now the Washington State K-12 ELA Learning Standards. The standards describe what students should know and be able to do at each grade level.

Assessments are designed to help districts, schools, teachers, parents and students determine the level of proficiency of a student's understanding of the ELA learning standards.

Instructional Materials, Resources and Course Supports
Resources to support alignment of instruction materials to the CCSS, curriculum alignment, classroom instructional supports, Open Educational Resources (OER) curricular reviews, and materials adoption

Professional Learning
Resources that support the development and implementation of ELA related professional learning.

Learning Pathways in Early Literacy
The Learning Pathways in Early Literacy use the WA State frameworks specifically in the areas of social-emotional development, cognitive development, language and literacy development, and reading and writing development to meet the goal of preparing students to have a strong foundation is language, thinking, communicating, reading, and writing.
