Success Stories – See What’s Happening in Washington State

School Health Advisory Council Workplan
Highline School District highlights their dedicated efforts in each of the eight elements of Coordinated School Health. This includes U.S. Healthier Schools Awards, an Ethnic Food Project, Harvest of the Month nutrition program, and a Staff Wellness Fair.

Nutrition and Physical Activity Advisory Committee
Port Angeles School collaborates with an advisory committee for strong community partnerships to support student nutrition and physical activity. This includes Safe Routes to Schools, Farm-to-School, scratch cooking, and an innovative Health and Fitness programs (such as a shared set of Rowing equipment that rotates between schools).

Let’s Move Blaine Coalition
Blaine School District is working to combat obesity by linking community resources to schools and families. In Blaine Elementary School there is School Wellness Committee Development, School Health Inventory and Action Planning, Healthy School Policies, Safe Routes to School and Walking School Buses, Family Health Nights and Kids Take Heart After School Clubs and Parent Leadership Classes.

Let’s Move Cheney
Cheney School District is involved in the city-sponsored, community-based coalition aimed at improving the health and lives of the community through awareness, nutrition, and physical activity: funding for a district wellness coordinator position, salad bars in schools, improved health policies for before and after school programming, and an expanded community garden.
