OSPI’s Michaela Miller Earns 2012 AWSP President’s Award
OLYMPIA (June 26, 2012)—Michaela Miller, Teacher/Principal Evaluation Pilot Project Manager & National Board Certification Program Coordinator at the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), yesterday was awarded the 2012 Association of Washington School Principals (AWSP) President’s Award. The award was presented by AWSP President Jim Rudsit at the group’s annual awards luncheon at their summer conference in Spokane.
This award recognizes Miller’s efforts in advancing the Teacher/Principal Evaluation Program (TPEP), which was created by the Washington State Legislature in 2010.
“Michaela is a dedicated leader doing highly effective work at OSPI,” State Superintendent Randy Dorn said. “TPEP is a sensitive political topic, but she has the collaborative skills it takes to work with superintendents, principals and teachers to develop a system to help improve teacher quality that will benefit kids across the state.”
Miller was chosen two years ago to lead TPEP for OSPI. Under her tenure, she has advanced this transformative new evaluation process that will result in a more growth-oriented system for principals and teachers. The President’s Award is given to a person outside AWSP who has advocated on behalf of principals and the principalship in Washington state.
