Child Nutrition Services (CNS) administers a variety of grant opportunities throughout the year.

All grants offered through Child Nutrition are submitted in iGrants. If you are new to writing grants, use these resources to help you submit the best possible proposal:


NSLP Equipment Assistance Grants
Applications accepted November 1, 2018 - December 15, 2018
2018-19 Funds awarded March 1, 2019

National School Lunch Program (NSLP) Equipment Assistance Grant funds allow local education agencies (LEAs) to buy equipment to serve healthier meals.

Schools must purchase equipment that improves the quality of school meals. The equipment must also assist with serving more fruits and vegetables in school meals.

LEAs may purchase equipment that:

  • Improves food safety;
  • Improves school food service operations efficiency;
  • And improves or expands participation in the NSLP or School Breakfast Program (SBP).

Breakfast Meals for Kids Grants (Form Package 383)
Applications accepted November 1, 2018 – December 15, 2018
2018-19 Funds awarded February 1, 2019

The Washington State Legislature provides funds for annual competitive grants available to public school districts:

  • Start a breakfast program;
  • Increase participation in an established breakfast program;
  • Or implement an alternative breakfast delivery model such as breakfast in the classroom.

Summer Meals for Kids Grants (Form Package 412)
Applications accepted April 1 – 15, 2019
2018-19 Funds awarded May 1, 2019

The Washington State Legislature provides funds to assist Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) sponsors:

  • Start new summer meal programs;
  • Increase participation;
  • And improve meal quality, equipment, or small supplies used in the program.
